The adornment and use of Amethyst goes way back, named by the ancient Greeks, the word Amethyst meant “to prevent drunkenness”. The deep purple stone was associated with Bacchus, the Greek God of wine. Drinking vessels were carved out of Amethyst and the Romans believed it would make you faithful.
“Pass me the amethyst gobblet honey and poor me some wine, I don’t want to get drunk and do anything crazy tonight”, OPA!!

Over the past decade, designing jewelry in Mexico, I developed a fascination for the Mexican self- portrait artist Frida Kahlo. A feminist icon, she was a revolutionary woman in the 1930s-40s. She suffered a lot in life and I wonder what she would think of her current fame and her portraits on postage stamps and Mexican money.  I felt a connection to her when I started working with a silversmith who lived in la Casa de Diego Rivera. Frida was married to the famous Mexican painter Diego Rivera. Designing jewelry in their historic Casita gave me the feeling of going back in time. Picturing peacocks floating around the garden, I would call on her creativity and strength for inspiration. Frida Kahlo wore very daring...
I have so much respect for people who do interviews. Yesterday at our annual Jenstones trunk show at Texture in Norfolk, a local news crew came in from Channel 13 to cover Small Business Saturday. I jumped at the chance to be on camera, I was looking cute and had my new dragon necklace on. When they strapped on a microphone my heart started beating really fast. I tried to breathe and my mind went blank, all the news reporter asked was what I thought about Small Business Saturday and I got all flustered.
